Whenever people hear of a business opportunity, the first thing they want to know is how soon they can earn.
In affiliate marketing, it is not unusual to listen to questions like “How fast can you make money with affiliate marketing?” or “how soon will I make my first sale?”
The answer is simple: in as short as a day.
But of course, there is no magic recipe for affiliate marketing. Like all sales efforts, your sales results depend on your marketing efforts.
Realistically, it will take two to three months before you can make your first sale, most especially so if you are new to the industry.
Because affiliate marketing is not a brick-and-mortar business where you peddle your ware on the street. Consumers online do not know who you are, much less trust you to buy from your recommendations.
If you’d like to make money fast, there are some things you need to know, and then implement what you have learned to your marketing strategy.
The Internet Has Changed
Back in 2006, it was so simple to succeed in affiliate marketing. All you needed to do was to put up a website, or a landing page, and then fill that page with tons of affiliate links. As such, affiliate marketers made sales in a matter of hours.
This approach does not work anymore. It is not easy to manipulate Google as it used to be, and you will be penalized today if you game the system.
Today, Google looks at the quality of your website. And there are so many things that it takes into account before your site even ranks in the top 10 pages for a keyword.
This requirement does not make it easy to build traffic, much less credibility. You need to have the authority to be trusted by the search engine before consumers consider you a credible source of information or products, which take us to point number 2.
You Need to Build Credibility
How fast can you make money with affiliate marketing? Why should it take three months?
It is a matter of trust and confidence. In the real world, how long does it take for you to trust a person that you just met? A day? A week?
Now, ask yourself: how long will it take a person who does not know you to trust you?
Today, you cannot just put up a site and sell anything you want. You need to be an influencer. You must have credibility, and you can only establish your credibility if you have the following:
- Consistency – you must have the same level of dedication as you did on day one If you can put more effort into it, then much better. As an affiliate marketer, you must be consistently publishing your blogs and opinions to establish a presence, not just for readers but for the search engines. One of the ways to ensure you rank your site on the top page of Google if you publish regularly.
- Authority – it takes a while to make money on affiliate marketing because you need to establish authority. You cannot just claim that you have a Ph.D. and then expect people to think of you as a credible source of information. By consistently blogging, you are establishing a presence and credibility, like as if you are telling customers indirectly that they have to listen to you because you know what you are doing.
- Influence – by the time you have developed consistency and authority, you will have influence. The things you say will be taken with little to no skepticism. Your thoughts and blog posts will be shared in a community of the same enthusiasts.
And only then can you recommend a link and make money. Now that you understand what it takes to make money, you will also begin to know how long it will take get results.
When people ask you “how fast can you make money with affiliate marketing,” the real answer should be: it depends on your dedication and level of skill.
